Last weekend I had the privilege of going to a workshop, The Intentional Photographer, hosted by Sarah Bradshaw. I’ve known Sarah for a few years and I’ve always admired not only her skill as a photographer but also the heart with which she runs her business. When I first read about Sarah’s workshop I knew it was something I wanted to go to. Though I have been in business for 5 years I still (and probably always will) have so much to learn.
When I started my business in 2010 I invested every second I had into learning about my camera, shooting in various types of light, how to edit well, second shooting with other experienced wedding photographers, how to use a flash, etc. I invested in the practical photo part of my business. What I did NOT invest well in was how to be intentional in running my business, how to love/serve my clients well, how to manage my time well in order to keep a well balanced life outside of my business, etc. Now granted, by the grace of God I don’t think I’ve utterly failed in any of those areas but I have SO much room for growth and I am excited to invest in my business to grow in these areas. Can I infuse meaning into every part of my business? What is my mission statement and does it change how I shoot or how I relate to my clients?<– questions Sarah has us ask ourselves.
What I loved so much about this workshop was that we didn’t talk about how to use your camera, or how to edit your photos. We talked about how to be intentional with your life, your family, your clients and business; letting your core beliefs
inform how you run your business. There were girls attending the workshop that are in the VERY beginning stages of starting their business and I envy them for hearing all this at such a foundational time for their business.
So, this is it for now! You’ll be hearing much more about this workshop and how it’s changing my business and even changing me! Check out how beautifully they set up for us! Can’t wait to share the photos from the styled shoot!
