I was never in control

A couple of days ago, I was in my first-ever car-accident. Besides being sore, I’m grateful to say everyone walked away un-harmed. All in all, I consider this having been a ‘minor’ accident. Though my car is totaled, the other car involved had barely a scratch on it. No ambulances were needed, everyone was calm, insurance has been VERY cooperative. Really, all things considered, it was a ‘good’ accident.

But it’s in these moments that you realize just how precious life really is. It’s so easy to think that life is in our own hands, but it’s not. We have NO control. That might make you anxious. Like me, you might be saying, “I like being in control of my life! I want to be in charge of what happens and when it happens.” However, when I think about it for a minute, I do realize that I don’t want to be in control. If I were in control of it, I would have one mess of a life.

So, when I look at my life, I am humbled and grateful that I can rest in the fact that I, smart as I think I am, can plan my way all day long, but the Lord establishes my steps – I was never in control!

The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.Proverbs 16:9
