Celebrate Good Times C’mon!

2 Big “Celebrations” coming up in the next month, so I thought, what better way to celebrate than a fun giveaway in-between. So, what are the celebrations, you might ask. Well let me tell you.

11 Years ago today, my family (Dad, mom, brother, sister and myself) set foot in the U.S.A. for the very first time. We moved here from South Africa on August 15th, 2001. Little did we know what we were ‘getting ourselves into’ but what an adventure it has been. For those of you who do not know me personally, I was born and raised in South Africa. So were my parents, and their parents, etc. We are true South Africans. My dad was offered a job here in Richmond, Virginia and after lots of prayer and consideration decided to accept. That’s where the journey began! I am grateful for the opportunity we’ve had as a family to settle here, though it can sometimes be hard being so far away from our family. Moving to a ‘foreign’ country with no family sounded much easier than it turned out to be however I would not trade a single moment for the lessons we’ve learned, the way God has revealed himself to us and the opportunities we’ve had to live our lives here. Here’s to many more–and maybe even one day we can get citizenship… I’ll have a MASSIVE giveaway then! =) So, today I’m starting the giveaway for this celebration. Leave a comment and tell me what is the farthest move you have made?

2nd Celebration is my birthday. 23 Years of exciting life. Being a part of my crazy family, I can honestly say that there is never a dull moment. They are the craziest, amazing family a girl could ever ask for. A dad who treats me like a princess (yes, daddy’s girl all the way!), a mom who loves me and our family in more ways than we can ever even attempt to notice, and an fun, energetic ‘little’ sister (even though she’s taller) who keeps me on my toes–literally! Then my brother/sister-in-law live in South Africa but they’re still part of my crazy family. And Lieze, you’re crazy for marrying into this crazy family but I love you for it! Thank you to each of you for playing a role in shaping me and my life into what it is today. May there be many more years of fun, family, friends, love and new exciting things!

So, in honor of these 2 celebrations, the giveaway will start today and end on my birthday, September 15th. SO, one of my favorite things about living here in the US is Starbucks!! So I’m giving away a $25 gift card to Starbucks. Wohoo!!

Big celebrations!! That’s awesome! I think my biggest move was from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to Ramstein, Germany. If not that one, then the move from Lakenheath, England to Lajes Field, Azores. Not quite sure which one wins though :]

I’ve moved all over the world as a child, I’ve lived on 4 continents and 10 countries!! But the biggest move was from Indonesia to the center of the USA – they are almost exactly opposite each other on the globe so you can’t get much farther away than that!

The farthest I’ve moved is from South Carolina to Brussels, Belgium. I moved there for a semester to teach English and work with some missionaries. It was tough (since I knew no one when I went!), but was one of the most amazing things God has ever stretched me to do. I’ve also been to SA, but didn’t live there. I was in Joburg for a mission trip and hopefully will make it to Cape Town one of these days! Happy birthday!!
